About the Artist

My name is Claudette Johnson. I’m a self-taught wildlife artist who is deeply inspired by her work in wildlife conservation. My goal is to share my love and respect for nature through beautiful art while supporting wildlife conservation and education.

My Story

I was born in Virginia where, for as long as I can remember, I have felt a natural connection to the wilderness and her beauty. I started pursuing a career in wildlife conservation, and have had the privilege of experiencing many roles within the field.

I moved to Western North Carolina where I received my Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Biology at Lee’s McRae College. My extraordinary experiences have given me the unique opportunity to study and observe wildlife behavior which fueled my creativity.

I don’t know when I first started creating, but I know that won my first art contest at the age of 9. Soon after that, I sold my first piece. Art has always a tool I could use to express myself. With my growing passion for wildlife, I wanted to use my talent to make a difference and support my continuing education.

I currently live just outside of Asheville, NC where I work as an animal care naturalist for the WNC Nature Center. When I’m not working, I love hiking with my dog, cuddling with my cat, or finding a DIY project. Also if you want me to talk for hours, I got you. Bring up animal behavior or bats!

Wildlife Inspired Artistry

Through Wildlife Inspired Artistry my goal is to educate about wildlife, donate to conservation efforts, and create beautiful art people can enjoy. That is why with each order, I send a handwritten note on kudzu paper giving you information on the piece, what conservation effort is being supported with your purchase, and a special thank you for your support!

It has been a journey creating Wildlife Inspired Artistry, and I love watching the growing impact it continues to make.
